Our Municipality
The Municipality of Meaford combines the character of its 19th century urban area, a major harbour development, and its many rural elements to provide an excellent quality of life for our residents
The Municipality has a number of significant environmental and topographical features that helped to establish an “environment first” philosophy. These features include miles of Georgian Bay shoreline, the Niagara Escarpment, the Big Head River and tributaries, the Bruce and Georgian Trails, substantial forests, rolling valleys, and large wetland areas. These important natural heritage features take precedence over development.
Our Municipality grew from its rural roots. It is the Municipality’s desire to protect and preserve its agricultural industry and that industry’s important role in the local economy. New residential and employment growth is encouraged to locate in the urban serviced areas. Development in the rural areas is asked to promote the character of the area.
The Municipality’s goal is that of managed, balanced growth over the next twenty years to ensure that our schools, hospital and community remain viable. That the quality of life enjoyed by our residents will be maintained and enhanced.
