The Municipality of Meaford has a long tradition of being an innovative community in the field of waste management and disposal. Solid Waste Services (SWS) is responsible for coordinating the collection, removal and disposal of waste and recyclables. SWS also tracks all waste collected to measure diversion rates in order to decrease the amount of recyclables and organic materials entering our landfills.

Our goal is the proper promotion and education of the Municipality’s current and upcoming solid waste practices and to ensure that the importance of environmental factors associated with waste disposal are considered.

To provide a simple and more efficient waste collection for the residents of the Municipality of Meaford, all waste bags or containers (garbage, recycling, and compost for urban Meaford) will be placed at your curb or roadside the same day each week. Garbage, and Composting will continue to be collected weekly, while Recycling will continue to be collected bi-weekly. Some residents in the Municipality of Meaford will have changes made to their collection schedules. Please see the attached Maps and Schedule to determine the appropriate day for your waste collection.

PLEASE REMEMBER:

HAVE ALL WASTE BAGS OR CONTAINERS PLACED AT YOUR CURB OR ROADSIDE BY 7:00 A.M.

Please see the attached Map and Schedule for your Solid Waste Collection Day. Please Note that only household garbage will be accepted for collection.

Each residence (owner or tenant) and business owner is allowed to place ONE bag of garbage not exceeding 18 kg (40 lbs) at the roadside in front of their premises for regular weekly pick up without a garbage bag tag affixed. IF A SECOND BAG OF GARBAGE IS LEFT FOR ROADSIDE COLLECTION, IT MUST HAVE A MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD BAG TAG AFFIXED that is clearly visible. The contractor has been instructed to pick up a second bag or container ONLY if the Municipality of Meaford bag tag is present.

The contractor will not pick up more than TWO (2) bags per week from each residence or business as there is a two bag limit per week, in accordance with Municipal By-law Standards.
